Meet Our Guest Artist: Katie Coughlin

Katie Coughlin received her MFA from The Ohio State University(2018) and her BFA from Alfred University(2010). Katie has been an Artist in Resident at Red Lodge Clay Center and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. She has received multiple awards including the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center, The Warren Mackenzie Advancement Award from Northern Clay Center, and most recently a 2020 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship. A native New Yorker, Katie returned to the city in 2018 and lives and works in Brooklyn.

Our 3 hour handbuilding workshop is for makers of all levels to experiment and play. We will be making pinch pots as a group and Katie will bring our projects back to NYC to fire in the kiln where you can arrange to pick them up from her studio in Brooklyn or have them shipped to you (shipping not included) shortly after the retreat.

Transportation

The best way to get to Succurro is by car, however there are regular daily buses that go to the Western Catskills (Delhi or Oneonta, NY). Please note: if you plan to take the bus you’ll need to schedule a taxi ahead of time to pick you up at the station and bring you to the farm as Uber is few and far between.

Succurro is located just a few hours drive from several major cities — 3.5 hours from NYC, 4 hours from Boston, 1 hour from Albany, 5 hours from Montreal, 4 hours from Burlington. Please set and download your GPS while in service areas, as cell service is spotty upstate.

If you have a car and want to carpool other registrants up, please let me know so I can help coordinate everyone!

The Adirondack Trailways bus stops in Delhi and Oneonta — each are 20 minutes from Succurro. Adirondack Trailways services NYC and Albany. Taxis services are available to take you to Succurro from the Delhi bus stop, but they should be booked ahead of time.
